The decision to offer the central government six municipal plots in Estepona for the construction of 109 subsidized housing units has been unanimously approved by the Corporation’s Plenary. This initiative complements other municipal efforts, including the construction of 1,200 affordable housing units in the near future. The proposal is a response to the recent announcement by the Government of Spain to allocate funds for the construction of 15,000 housing units annually through the ‘Spain Grows’ fund. Mayor José María García Urbano emphasized the importance of this measure in facilitating affordable housing for those in need. The available plots are located in various areas of Estepona, such as Casas del Padrón, Llanos de la Boladilla, and Camino de Cortes, and are part of the City Council’s ongoing efforts to increase the supply of subsidized housing. In addition, the Plenary approved the allocation of 36 municipal plots for subsidized housing construction, in accordance with the regional Decree-Law 1/2025 on housing in Andalusia. The Economic Plan, aimed at maintaining financial stability and budget surpluses, was also endorsed by the Plenary. Furthermore, a public space in Estepona will be dedicated to the artist Ana Mena, recognizing her international success and pride for the city.
