Commencement of the renovation works on San Lorenzo Avenue has begun to convert it into a two-way street. The project includes a complete overhaul of the supply and sanitation networks, leading to the temporary closure of the City Hall parking lot, which is expected to reopen before Christmas. Estepona City Council has announced the start of the scheduled works on the extension of Avenida de San Lorenzo, managed by the water service concessionaire, Hidralia, through the improvement fee. This initiative will enable the comprehensive renewal of the area’s supply and sanitation networks, along with a complete redesign of the road to accommodate two-way traffic. The ongoing renovation complements the extensive boulevard project currently in progress. The implementation of these works necessitates a temporary traffic rerouting due to the closure of San Lorenzo Avenue, redirecting access to the downtown area via Africa Street. Additionally, the City Hall parking facility will remain closed to the public during the initial phase of the project, with plans to reopen before the holiday season. Hidralia’s efforts cover an estimated area of around 2,800 square meters, encompassing both the road and sidewalk, and involve upgrading the supply and sanitation networks in accordance with the latest flow and pressure requirements outlined in the local improvement fee plan. This includes enhancing the quality and capacity of the water and sanitation pipelines, as well as standardizing the sidewalk width on the eastern side and renewing all affected services. Upon completion, the renovated road will facilitate two-way traffic flow. The overall construction period for the project is projected at five and a half months, to be executed in stages to minimize the impact on the City Hall public parking lot. This initiative is part of the broader boulevard project, representing the culmination of Estepona’s significant urban transformation over the past decade. The endeavor aims to create a spacious public area at the town’s core, with ongoing works progressing along San Lorenzo and España avenues, connecting the new Town Hall, the promenade, and the town center. The redevelopment plan includes the establishment of a large pedestrian boulevard with recreational zones and an underground parking facility accommodating over 300 vehicles, operating under the municipal parking network at a cost of 1 euro per day for users.
