To prevent the transit of vehicles after the Guadalmansa reservoirs were opened, the City Council will keep the crossings closed over the weekend. Estepona’s Consistory is stepping up inspection and monitoring activities at river and stream crossings in the area, along with channel cleaning, due to rising water levels from the Guadalmansa river discharge and anticipated heavy rainfall. Fences were installed at the crossings following the regional administration’s decision to open the reservoir gates. The closures will remain in place from the Castor River area to Guadalmina and Guadalmansa to ensure safety. The cleaning of stream and river channels is being intensified to remove any obstacles that may have been washed in by recent rains. The Consistory deems these preventive measures crucial to minimize potential incidents in light of the weather forecast. Estepona’s City Council continues its year-round riverbed and stream cleaning efforts, clearing areas like Arroyo Judío, El Saladillo, and Guadalobón. These interventions help prevent drainage obstructions and potential flooding during heavy rains, as well as reduce the risk of forest fires. It’s important to note that the City Council’s jurisdiction is limited to urban riverbeds. Additionally, maintenance and cleaning work is carried out on rural roads, ditches, and plots across more than 100 kilometers of the municipality. While the focus is on road and waterway maintenance, the Council’s operational services also handle pavement repairs and upkeep of municipal and private plots on a supplementary basis.
