Following the adherence to the Housing Decree of the Junta de Andalucía, the City Council can now plan nearly a thousand VPOs on municipal land previously used for other public purposes. Additionally, two projects in the Camino de Cortes sector will see the construction of 308 VPOs. The Plenary of the Estepona City Council unanimously approved the compatibility of municipal use, allowing for the allocation of 36 municipal plots for subsidized housing construction. This was made possible by joining the Decree-Law 1/2025 of urgent measures on housing, facilitating the construction of VPOs without the need to modify planning instruments. The initiative has been in the works since April, with municipal technicians identifying public plots suitable for social housing based on the parameters of the General Urban Development Plan (PGOU) of Estepona. Mayor José María García Urbano emphasized the importance of this social measure, highlighting that these plots are strategically located to ensure public allocations for the population. Alongside this, the City Council will tender four plots for the construction of 200 public housing units with affordable rental prices to aid young people and residents with limited resources. Furthermore, two projects in the Camino de Cortes sector will bring 308 subsidized housing units. The City Council has approved preliminary urban planning projects for these developments, with legal provisions allowing for zero-cost acquisition of the land to reduce housing prices. The council also greenlit the ordinances for Personal Mobility Vehicles (PMV) to regulate their circulation and use, ensuring road safety and compliance with state regulations. Lastly, the City Council named Maria Miralles, Jose Fernandez, and Francisco Medina as Favorite Sons of Estepona for their significant contributions to the community.
