A letter from Endesa has been received by the Consistory, rejecting the proposal to provide electricity exclusively to the Alma building in the sector, which is still awaiting future developments. Today, the Estepona City Council announced that Endesa has turned down the latest municipal offer made in January to address the electricity supply issue at the Alma building. The Council is disappointed that the supplier opposes the proposed measure to ensure electrical connectivity to the property. This was conveyed by Mayor José María García Urbano and Deputy Mayor Ana Velasco of the Development, Infrastructure, and Tourism (FIT) department during a meeting with neighbors at the municipal offices. The Council suggested to Endesa that only phase 1 of the ‘La Calera’ sector’s urbanization project, where the Alma building is situated, should receive an electrical connection. They were willing to advance the urban development phase to secure the power supply as new developments progressed. This would reduce the current electricity demand and ensure supply to the completed Alma building. Given the critical situation faced by the building owners due to acknowledged electricity supply issues on the Costa del Sol, the Council believes that the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge should intervene. The Council highlights that these owners should not suffer due to the broader issue of electricity supply to new housing developments across the country. The City Council reaffirms its support for affected neighbors and mentions unsuccessful proposals made to Endesa, including transferring reserved power from undeveloped sectors. The Consistory emphasizes its compliance with legal procedures since the start of the urban development project, demonstrating the same diligence as with previous city developments since 2011.
