In order to address the growing animal population, particularly dogs and cats, and to ensure their well-being and prevent euthanasia, the Estepona City Council has contracted a new animal rescue and protection service. This new service will include collection, shelter, maintenance (including veterinary care) of abandoned or stray animals within the municipality. The goal is to expand the existing coverage provided by the City Council, which previously collaborated with a kennel for the care of rescued animals. With the rise in animal population, especially dogs and cats, the focus will be on promoting responsible adoptions, raising awareness against abandonment, and guaranteeing animal welfare. The service provider must adhere to animal welfare laws and regulations, and will operate within Estepona’s public areas, providing daily care and emergency services 24/7. The contract has been awarded to Total Animal Services Paraíso Tas, S.L, with a budget of 253,848.06 euros, and will initially run for 2 years, with the possibility of extension. The company has proposed a computer program for real-time monitoring of services and animal movements. The Estepona City Council has long been committed to preventing animal abandonment and euthanasia, in line with animal welfare laws, and has collaborated with local animal care organizations.
