An event called ‘Chess for Everyone’ will be available to the public from June 30 to August 23, running from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The Municipal Chess School in Estepona will kick off rapid chess games and giant chess matches on the oversized boards along the Paseo Marítimo starting on June 30. This annual ‘Chess for Everyone’ initiative, free for all, will run until August 23, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The program is part of the Chess Promotion Plan launched by the Estepona City Council back in 2011. This innovative plan has ensured that children born in 2004 or later have been taught how to play chess, a mentally stimulating activity with numerous benefits. Upcoming summer chess events include the 3rd ‘Juan Miguel Abril Rodríguez’ Memorial on Thursday, July 2, and the 40th ‘City of Estepona’ Night Chess Tournament on August 13, both to be held on the Paseo Marítimo. Furthermore, the Municipal Chess Sports School will provide chess lessons for children aged Under 8-10 and Under 12-14-16 during July and August, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, at the Padre Manuel Cultural Center. Classes will be held at the Cancelada Mayor’s Office on Wednesdays.
