Over a hundred young athletes are set to compete in the U15 and U17 age groups. The council member from the Sports delegation, Luis Gil, along with Francisco Jimenez from the Estepona GRUME Mountain Group, unveiled the Andalusian Climbing Championship for youth 2026. This weekend, Estepona will be the venue for the final phase of this competition, organized by the Andalusian Federation of Mountain Sports, Climbing and Hiking and the C.D. Estepona Mountain Group (GRUME), with the support of the City Council, as part of the initiative to promote mountaineering among youngsters. The event will be held at the climbing wall in Estepona on May 16 and 17, 2026. Luis Gil highlighted the City Council’s goal of encouraging and facilitating sports events in the city, by developing new sports facilities and enhancing existing ones. The construction of the professional climbing wall at the fairgrounds has enabled many enthusiasts to engage in this sport in Estepona. The final phase of the Andalusian Climbing Championship for youth will feature Combined and Individual Speed categories, with U15 for athletes aged 13 to 14 and U17 for athletes aged 15 to 16. An estimated 126 athletes will participate, with the competition schedule set as follows: Saturday, May 16, from 11:00 am to 9:30 pm, with a break at 2:30 pm for lunch; and Sunday, May 17, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Medals will be presented to the top three athletes in both combined (block and difficulty) and speed categories, in each age group. Trophies will also be awarded to the top three provincial teams in each category and gender, as well as to the top three individuals with the highest total points.
