Arroyo Vaquero hosts 518 housing projects, Camino de Cortes 260, Guadalobón 200, and Monterroso 300. The mismanagement of previous governments has hindered the construction of at least 1,500 homes, as they sold municipal land to private developers without requiring the 30% allocation for affordable housing. The Estepona City Council is actively pursuing the development of approximately 1,200 subsidized housing units in various areas like Camino de Cortes, Camino Monterroso, Guadalobon, and Arroyo Vaquero. Mayor José María García Urbano emphasized the city’s commitment to addressing the housing crisis by implementing a VPO Plan to improve access to housing for vulnerable groups. The council has faced challenges due to the poor decisions of past administrations, resulting in the loss of public land for affordable housing. The most advanced project includes the construction of 110 subsidized housing units in Camino de Cortes, with plans for additional units in other areas. The City Council is also working on acquiring land for more than 150 VPOs in Camino de Cortes, in addition to the 110 planned units. Furthermore, initiatives in Arroyo Vaquero, Monterroso, and Guadalobón are underway to secure land for the development of 518, 300, and 199 subsidized housing units respectively. Mayor García Urbano remains dedicated to expanding affordable housing options in Estepona.
