From April 14 to 16, the Spanish University Climbing Championship 2026 will be held at Estepona’s municipal climbing wall. The event, with the participation of approximately 100 athletes, is organized by the University of Malaga in partnership with the Estepona City Council. The mayor of Estepona emphasized the adaptability of this sports facility to host events and facilitate the practice of climbing. The championship aims to promote climbing among university students, highlighting values such as effort, self-improvement, camaraderie, and fair play. It also provides a platform for high-level competition, allowing students to showcase their skills in a safe and regulated environment. The goals include encouraging university community engagement in sports, promoting climbing as a growing discipline, and fostering inter-university relationships through sports. Additionally, the championship aims to promote equality, inclusion, and respect among participants, while ensuring efficient organization that meets sports and safety standards. Around 100 athletes are expected to participate in the Climbing Championship, which is part of the Spanish University Championships organized annually by the Consejo Superior de Deportes and managed by the ten public universities of Andalusia. The schedule for the championship is as follows: accreditations on April 14, Block Competition on April 15, Difficulty Competition on April 16, with trophy presentations on both days. Since 2024, Estepona has had an outdoor climbing wall spanning 662 square meters, with designated areas for different climbing modalities: difficulty, speed, and block.
