The Estepona City Council is set to kick off the third edition of the ‘Compartiendo Culturas’ project, a municipal initiative designed to foster integration, mutual understanding, and peaceful coexistence among the diverse nationalities residing in the city. With a population boasting 135 different nationalities, accounting for about 32 percent of the total registered residents, the program serves as a platform for various communities to showcase their unique cultural heritage, traditions, cuisine, music, crafts, and more to the wider public. Collaborating with associations and groups of foreign residents, the program will host a series of celebrations throughout the fall season dedicated to different countries. The inaugural events will take place in September along the Paseo Marítimo, near the Monument to the Peseta, and will highlight the Italian, British, and Ukrainian communities. Italian Culture Day will kick off on September 19, featuring music, cultural activities, and food. British Day follows on September 26 with music, dance performances, and market stalls. Ukraine Day will conclude the festivities on September 27 with a craft market, traditional cuisine, and a gala concert showcasing Ukrainian artists and groups from the Costa del Sol. Begoña Ortiz, councilwoman for the Outlying Areas department, emphasized that ‘Sharing Cultures’ underscores a dedication to coexistence and strengthening the bonds between Estepona’s diverse communities. Each event serves as an opportunity to deepen our understanding of different cultures and appreciate the enriching contributions they bring to our city. The City Council will continue to promote the upcoming events comprising the ‘Sharing Cultures’ program this fall, highlighting the initiative’s role in leveraging Estepona’s cultural diversity as a means to foster sharing, mutual acquaintance, and communal living.
