A new study has been initiated by the Estepona City Council to assess the condition of the roads using cutting-edge technology and artificial intelligence. This pioneering project aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the road network, allowing for optimized maintenance activities across the municipality. The Deputy Mayor of Services and External Control, Blas Ruzafa, highlighted that this study is a significant part of the Municipal Paving Plan, focusing on identifying and prioritizing necessary repair and maintenance actions. Through the use of a specialized vehicle equipped with 360º analysis technology, detailed images and data are being collected to evaluate existing damages and determine the required interventions. This innovative system acts as a detailed ‘X-ray’ of the city, offering an objective assessment of each road’s condition. Additionally, the project includes the development of a digital platform providing the City Council with a comprehensive inventory of key municipal assets, such as street lighting and urban signage. The CEO of Fisotec, the company responsible for the study, emphasized the advanced capabilities of the platform, stating that it offers a detailed view of the city similar to Google Street View. By leveraging artificial intelligence, the technology rapidly processes vast amounts of data, enabling informed decision-making for maintenance and improvement actions. This tool not only enhances the efficiency of municipal resources but also aids in prioritizing urgent interventions and planning future investments in road maintenance. The City Council’s adoption of such advanced solutions underscores its commitment to innovation and a more effective maintenance approach tailored to the city’s actual requirements.
