Taking place on a sunny Sunday, October 5th, the IV Open Sea-Coast ‘Playas de Estepona’ sport fishing event unfolded at La Rada Beach, attracting a large number of fishing enthusiasts. Estepona City Council announced that the competition, organized by the Club Amigos de la Pesca ‘Playas de Estepona’ in partnership with the local government, aimed to promote shore angling, known as ‘surfcasting’, and set a benchmark for future contests at different levels. Participants ranged from newcomers to seasoned anglers, including national and world champions, following the regulations set by the Andalusian Federation of Sport Fishing and the Spanish Federation of Fishing and Casting. Luis Gil, the councillor for Sports, praised the event’s appeal to fishing enthusiasts and highlighted the charitable aspect of the competition, with participants contributing 2 kilos of non-perishable food for Caritas. Post-competition, catches were weighed at the Municipal House of the fairgrounds, with trophy presentations generating a lively and friendly atmosphere among attendees. Miguel Prieto Bermúdez (Miguelito) claimed the top spot, earning a trophy and 1,000 euros, while Olesky Kravecko secured second place with a trophy and 500 euros. A kayak was raffled off to participants, courtesy of Nautical and Drugstore Ramirez, with Olesky Kravecko being the lucky winner. Antonio Sanchez’s trio of good-sized bream earned him the largest catch prize, while Gemma García Cortés received the ‘Lady Award’ of 100 euros.
