The municipal council has erected signs to alert and educate drivers about the presence of flood crossings in eight rivers and streams across the city. Estepona City Council has confirmed the installation of vertical signs at flood crossing points in various rivers and streams to improve road safety. These new signs aim to notify drivers about the potential risks of accidents during flooding in these areas. Over twenty precautionary signs have already been set up in locations like Arroyo Enmedio, Arroyo Guadalobón, Arroyo La Cala, Río Monterroso, Río El Padrón, Río El Castor, Río El Velerín, and Río Guadalmansa. The council plans to add more warning signs in a second phase at other river and stream crossings. They are also considering additional safety measures such as barriers or traffic cameras. Some roads in the region pass through rivers via flood crossings, where vehicles drive over riverbeds or submersible structures. During heavy rain, water levels can rise, posing a risk of vehicles being swept away. While these crossings are mainly used by local residents or vacationers, it’s crucial to highlight the dangers during rainy periods. Signage will be placed at high-traffic areas to raise awareness. Moreover, vertical signs will be installed in rural zones with poor visibility. The signs, designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, feature high reflectivity for night-time visibility. Civil Protection and Local Police will also coordinate preventive measures and road closures during severe weather events.
