Last weekend, the Principality of Asturias hosted the exciting sporting event where the amputee soccer team CP Flamingos Amputees South, including Estepona’s Pedro Aragonés Mora, emerged victorious in the Spanish Amputee Football Club Championship. The championship took place on April 11 and 12 at the FUNDOMA F-8 facilities in Oviedo, bringing together the top three teams in Spain: Real Oviedo, Real Betis, and Flamencos Amputados del Sur. In a challenging match against Real Betis Foundation, Flamencos Amputados del Sur from Malaga secured a 1-2 victory over the Seville team, clinching the top spot once again. Estepona made history in 2023 by hosting the Amputee Football Champions League, showcasing teams from eight European countries. The City Council of Estepona played a key role in organizing this prestigious event, highlighting the inclusive nature of this adaptive sport and the remarkable athletes who embody resilience, dedication, and love for the game. Amputee soccer involves two teams of seven players, with field players missing lower limbs and goalkeepers missing upper limbs. Field players use crutches and play without prosthetics.
