Esther Ráez has written a book aimed at explaining death, absence, and mourning to primary school children. The Estepona City Council has announced that this Thursday, May 28, the Library of Contemporary Cultures at Mirador El Carmen will host the presentation of ‘Sofia and the mystery of heaven’ by Esther Ráez. This cultural initiative targets primary school children to address the sensitive topics of death, absence, and grief in a respectful and constructive manner. The event, scheduled for 20.00 hours, will be led by Nono Rodriguez, a teacher at IES Mar de Alboran and a friend of the author. Esther Ráez herself will be present to share the inspiration and creative process behind this work. The author, who is the sister of Pablo Ráez, the young athlete from Malaga known for his advocacy of bone marrow donation, aims to provide support and understanding to children and families dealing with loss. The Estepona City Council has shown its endorsement by distributing copies of the book to all 13 primary schools in the city. ‘Sofia and the Mystery of the Sky’ is an illustrated tale that navigates the theme of loss and grief through family dialogue, memories, and shared experiences. Illustrated by Cristina Barba, the book is intended for both children and adults supporting them through emotional challenges. Drawing from personal experiences, the author has created a safe space for exploring complex emotions surrounding loss with sensitivity and care. The narrative follows Sofia, a young girl grappling with the death of her uncle, as she seeks understanding through questions, memories, and family traditions. The book encourages open conversations about emotions, fostering empathy, active listening, and emotional support.
