In an effort to combat the psylla pest, Estepona City Council is implementing a sustainable treatment on over 500 ficus trees. This preventive campaign aims to protect the trees in public parks from potential insect damage. Operators are administering more than 2,000 injections in the trunks of the ficus trees, using Ynject devices for endotherapy. The treatment, which includes insecticide injections, is carried out by trained municipal operators to enhance the phytosanitary and vegetative state of the trees. This proactive approach helps prevent the formation of cottony secretions and effectively fights against the psylla pest. The treatment protocol is managed by a phytosanitary advisor and is part of the annual phytosanitary calendar for the municipal green areas. Additionally, a previous campaign was conducted in October against the processionary caterpillar in pine trees, known for causing health issues in humans and animals.
