The recent storytelling series organized by the City Council has come to a close at the Municipal Library, situated in the Padre Manuel Cultural Center. Over the period from February to June, nearly 300 children aged 3 to 8 were introduced to the wonders of reading through five engaging themed sessions. This initiative is part of the City Council’s efforts to promote reading at the ‘Elvira Lindo’ Children’s Room, aiming to instill a love for books and storytelling in young children, fostering a sense of shared enjoyment among families. The storytelling sessions attracted a total of around 300 attendees, comprising children and adults, highlighting the library’s role as a cultural hub for families in the area. Geared towards families with young children, the series focused on a different theme each month, using storytelling not only to encourage reading but also to explore emotions, values, and curiosity about the world. Led by Vanesa López Morales, a specialist in hearing and language, the sessions were interactive and well-received by the audience. The series included themes such as emotional education, equality, the love of books, nature, and adventure, culminating in a session in June that captivated the audience with tales of travel and imagination. Macarena Diánez, councilor for the Department of Culture, praised the initiative, highlighting the library’s role as a place for learning, gathering, and enjoyment for families in Estepona. She emphasized the importance of introducing children to reading early on and expressed gratitude to the storyteller and participating families. The commitment to continue promoting reading activities at the Municipal Library as part of the city’s cultural program for children was also underlined, solidifying the library’s position as a dynamic space for culture, interaction between generations, and community involvement.
