Trained operators from the Parks and Gardens delegation are administering over 2,000 injections in the trunks of more than 500 ficus trees to combat the psylla pest. The City Council of Estepona is conducting a preventive campaign to control insect pests that could harm trees in public parks and green areas. This treatment is in addition to the campaign against the pine processionary caterpillar carried out in October. The sustainable treatment aims to prevent damage caused by psylla in ficus trees by acting as soon as the first symptoms are detected, before cottony secretions appear. The application of phytosanitary products through endotherapy is done by trained municipal operators, with 2,250 injections of insecticide being administered during the campaign. This method not only improves the health of the trees but also avoids environmental emissions. The protocol is managed by a phytosanitary advisor and is part of the annual phytosanitary calendar for the municipality’s green areas.
