The Plenary session of Estepona’s City Council has given the green light to the initial approval of the budget for 2026, amounting to 132 million euros. This budget marks a significant milestone with historic levels of investments and a substantial decrease in the Real Estate Tax (IBI), making it the largest tax cut in the city’s history. Mayor José María García Urbano described it as a groundbreaking budget that eliminates the burden of inherited debt, allowing the city to focus on future development and improvement. The budget prioritizes investments in public spaces, social welfare, maintenance, and the creation of new facilities for sports and recreation, among other areas. Additionally, provisions are made for cultural initiatives, public safety enhancements, and economic support for families through a significant reduction in the IBI. Social programs targeting vulnerable citizens receive substantial funding, reflecting the council’s commitment to addressing community needs. Estepona continues to lead by example, submitting its budget early and demonstrating responsible fiscal management. The Plenary also approved two ordinances related to personal mobility vehicles and the non-tax public provision of vehicle services.
