A new rainwater collection system is being planned by the Estepona City Council to protect the western part of the historic town in the event of DANA and heavy rainfall. Situated on the lower section of San Lorenzo Avenue, the proposed storm tank will have the capacity to store significant amounts of water, preventing the sewerage network from being overwhelmed during torrential downpours. The project, costing approximately 950,000 euros and funded through local improvement fees, has been awarded to water service provider Hidralia. The storm tank, set to be constructed at the convergence of San Lorenzo Avenue and Calle Real, aims to efficiently gather rainwater from the area prone to water accumulation during heavy rainfall. This initiative is seen as a preemptive measure to supplement the existing drainage system, given the frequent occurrence of intense rainstorms. The construction is expected to last three months and will run concurrently with the boulevard renovation. With a capacity of around 825 cubic meters, the storm tank will be equipped with new pipelines, overflow channels, and pumps for effective water discharge.
