Small group workshops are being introduced by the Estepona City Council to enhance memory, promote active aging, personal autonomy, and preserve the cultural heritage of Estepona. These workshops are part of the ‘Active Seniors: Healthy Living’ project aimed at individuals over 65 years old. The focus is on improving physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being. A key aspect of the program is documenting knowledge shared by seniors, particularly in workshops like ‘Recipe book of Estepona’ and ‘Vocabulary of Estepona’. The goal is to recognize and safeguard the cultural and culinary history of the municipality to prevent the loss of valuable traditional information. The material collected will be archived as part of Estepona’s intangible heritage. The initiative targets seniors over 65, specifically those facing loneliness or limited social engagement. These workshops, along with others covering memory, arithmetic, calligraphy, reading, motor skills, and art therapy, are tailored to small groups for personalized attention. The sessions incorporate cognitive and therapeutic exercises in a fun and engaging manner to boost motivation and active participation. Due to high demand, the Geriatric Cabinet will extend the duration of these activities. Councilor for the Elderly, Daniel Garcia, emphasized the commitment to seniors’ well-being by offering practical and engaging activities to enhance their overall health and sense of belonging. The ‘Active Seniors: Healthy Living’ program aims to enhance memory, mobility, social connections, and quality of life for seniors through physical, cognitive, and socio-cultural activities. These include adapted physical exercises like hiking and gymnastics, cognitive tasks such as memory workshops, and sociocultural events like guided tours and recipe book creation. The project caters to seniors over 65, especially those experiencing social isolation or reduced social participation. For more information, individuals can contact 952 792 602/ 952 794 051 or visit the Municipal Geriatric Office at Calle Terraza, 168.
