Taking place on April 16, the upcoming event organized by the City Council and the Consular Corps of Malaga will gather diplomatic representatives from around thirty countries with consular presence in the province. This meeting in Estepona will mark a significant milestone, boasting the largest attendance of diplomatic representatives in Andalusia to date, coinciding with the 63rd anniversary of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and Spain’s 40 years in the EU. With 50 consulates in the province, half of them will be represented at the meeting, showcasing Estepona’s commitment to integrating its diverse foreign residents. Known for its multicultural community, the city hosts residents from 135 nationalities, comprising 32% of its population. The Consular Corps of Malaga plays a crucial role in fostering dialogue between cultures and supporting global development, with this meeting serving as a platform for information exchange and strengthening ties between nations. Additionally, an exhibition on Terraza Street will highlight the 400 years of consular history in Malaga, starting from the signing of the first commercial treaty in 1641 between Denmark and Spain. The exhibition will showcase the functions and peculiarities of each consulate, as well as important events in Spain’s relations with different countries, emphasizing the role of consulates in promoting trade, economic, scientific, and cultural exchanges, and ensuring the welfare of foreign citizens.
