Scheduled to take place from April to June, the event aims to enhance participants’ quality of life by providing cognitive stimulation through the use of virtual reality technology. Estepona’s City Council has announced the launch of ‘Ocean Blue Sensory’, an initiative that combines real-life maritime experiences with immersive technology to benefit seniors and vulnerable groups in the community. Organized by Pesca y Turismo Azul, the event seeks to promote emotional well-being, cognitive stimulation, and social inclusion, while highlighting Estepona’s maritime heritage as a crucial aspect of local identity. With a focus on improving participants’ quality of life and fostering community bonds, the program will cater to 150 individuals through personalized sessions over six days. Each three-hour session will offer a mix of educational activities, hands-on experiences, and sensory stimulation. Notably, ‘Ocean Blue Sensory’ will incorporate cutting-edge virtual reality technology provided by the Blue Immersion and Awareness Center CISAT, offering participants immersive marine experiences to trigger emotional responses and evoke memories related to the sea. The initiative will also include guided tours of the fishing port and fish market, workshops on sustainable fishing practices, and activities showcasing the role of women in the fishing industry. By addressing themes of environmental sustainability, gender equality, and community well-being, ‘Ocean Blue Sensory’ aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. The project, funded with 15,000 euros from the GALPA Costa del Sol, aims to create a replicable model for coastal areas and promote innovation, healthy living, and biodiversity conservation.
