Commencing on June 21, a campaign will be conducted on every other Sunday throughout June, July, and August from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm under a tent on the Paseo Marítimo. The initiative aims to provide information on safeguarding against high temperatures, a shaded area for relaxation, and complimentary blood pressure checks. The councilor from the Health department, Julia Simon, alongside the Health representatives of the Local Assembly and the Provincial Director of Red Cross, Pablo Muñoz and Monica Morales, unveiled the project titled ‘Hot, hot. Protect yourself from the heat wave is closer than you think’, designed to advocate for preventive measures against the adverse effects of high temperatures and to enhance public consciousness. Targeted primarily at the elderly and vulnerable demographics, the campaign will operate starting from June 21 on alternate Sundays in June, July, and August. Red Cross will set up a tent on the Paseo Marítimo (opposite the European Union traffic circle) during these days, from 10:00 to 13:00, offering a shaded space for relaxation, guidance on appropriate protective measures against high temperatures, and complimentary blood pressure checks. Furthermore, the tent will be present at significant gatherings like the Virgen de Carmen festivities and the Night of San Juan. Individuals experiencing symptoms like fatigue, dizziness, or general discomfort due to heat while strolling can head to this location for assistance and stay until they feel better. It’s worth mentioning that apart from these scheduled days, Red Cross will provide its services on any day when authorities issue high-temperature alerts (yellow, orange, or red levels) by setting up care and prevention centers as required. Red Cross Estepona emphasizes the significance of taking precautions against high temperatures, including refraining from strenuous physical activities during peak heat hours, using sun protection, and staying well-hydrated. The ‘On guard against the heat’ campaign reflects Red Cross’s dedication to safeguarding public health and well-being, with the backing and participation of the Municipality. Additionally, it enjoys the support of Vithas Estepona Hospital, Supermercado Mas, and the Mahou San Miguel Foundation.
