The celebration of arts and literature known as the Estepona Literary Festival (FLEST), organized by the City Council at the Mirador del Carmen, has firmly established itself as one of the country’s premier cultural events. With a program featuring renowned figures like Rosa Montero, Enrique Vila-Matas, Brianda Fitz James Stuart, Paloma Sánchez-Garnica, Pedro Piqueras, and Estrella Morente, the festival drew over 4,000 attendees for its third edition. This festival transcends genres and disciplines, bringing together cultural icons with the public and engaging local bookstores to enhance the reading experience for residents. FLEST director Alejandro Simón Partal designed a diverse program for all audiences, highlighting activities focused on young adult literature and children’s workshops. The festival extended beyond the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center to Calle Terraza, showcasing the exhibition ‘El camino: From the Invisible to the Visible’ by Brianda Fitz James Stuart. Mayor José María García Urbano praised the festival as a testament to the city’s dedication to culture, arts, and intellectual discourse. Estepona’s commitment to culture is evident not only in events like FLEST but also in the development of new facilities to support such gatherings.
